Start with your journeys, not the badge. Write down your weekly mileage, your longest regular trip and where you can reliably charge.
Battery information
Ask for measured battery condition, the assessment method and date. A dashboard range prediction is not an independent battery-health test. If a report is unavailable, ask what evidence can be provided before you commit.
History and condition
Check service records, MOT history, outstanding recalls, charging cables and the car’s history. Test both AC and rapid charging where practical. Look for damage to the battery casing and have concerns assessed by a qualified specialist.
Range and charging
Official WLTP range is a comparison figure, not a promise. Cold weather and sustained motorway driving can reduce range. Check the connector and the chargers on routes you actually use.
Warranty
Confirm any remaining manufacturer warranty against the VIN, age, mileage and terms. Do not assume a used car is still covered. Read the seller’s terms and your consumer rights before paying.
