AFFORDABLE ELECTRIC
Used electric cars under £10,000.
A lower budget can still buy a capable first EV, if the car suits your journeys.
What this budget usually means
At this price you are generally looking at older or higher-mileage cars, often with smaller batteries. Models such as early Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe and BMW i3 versions commonly appear around this level, but prices move with age, mileage, condition and demand. Treat any figure you see as a guide, not a quote.
Range: be realistic
Older, smaller batteries can suit local driving well. Check the official WLTP figure as a comparison only, then leave a buffer for cold weather, motorway speeds and battery ageing. Your longest regular journey matters more than your average day.
Battery and charging checks
Ask for evidence of battery condition, how it was measured and when. Check the charging connector: some older cars use CHAdeMO for rapid charging, which is less widely available than CCS. Confirm whether the battery is owned or was leased, as some older Renault Zoe batteries were leased separately.
Total cost, not just price
Include charging at the tariffs you will actually pay, insurance, tyres and any repairs. Our calculator lets you compare energy costs using your own figures.
