The best first EV is the one that fits your routine, not the one with the biggest numbers.
Start with your week
Write down your normal weekly mileage, your longest regular trip and where the car will be parked overnight. These three answers narrow the choice more than anything else.
Match the car size
Small cars such as the Renault Zoe, Peugeot e-208 or Vauxhall Corsa Electric suit town driving and shorter trips. Family hatchbacks such as the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4 or Nissan Leaf offer more space. Crossovers such as the Kia e-Niro or Hyundai Kona Electric add height and boot room.
Be honest about range
Choose a car that covers your longest regular trip with a comfortable buffer, especially in winter. Paying for range you rarely use can stretch your budget unnecessarily.
